This beautiful tree with its edible pink flowers is called “Arbol de Amor” (Tree of Love) in Spanish. Said to be the tree from which Judas hanged himself after betraying Christ, the European Redbud (Cercis siliquastrum) is often referred to as “Judas Tree”, although the name probably originated from “Judea´s Tree”, as it is a rather common in Israel and Palestine.
